When I was a freshman at Texas A&M I quickly realized that cowboy boots were needed for Ranch Party and football games. Luckily Austin isn't too far from College Station. My Mom took me shopping to find a pair. I remember wanting to find boots that would match with most outfits. I ended up choosing a tan pair of boots with crosses on them. Baptist boots. I'm not sure why I thought those boots would fit in at frat parties. I guess I wasn't trying to fit in. Yea, I wanted to be dressed according to the theme, but I also wanted to stay true to myself. Let those people know what's what. I don't remember seeing anyone else rocking cowboy boots with crosses on them, but it didn't matter to me. I loved those boots.
I finally gave them away last year when I made the move to Dallas. I didn't replace them right away, which meant I went dancing in high heeled booties more than a few times here in Dallas and back home. It's not very easy to dance in 4 inch heels, which is why I started to look online for a new pair. Miranda Lambert has her own line of shoes. I tried to get a pair of her silver boots last year but they were sold out everywhere. When I looked again here recently, most retailers were still out of stock, except for one : ) This particular retailer not only had the boots...they had them marked down to thirty five dollars! Use the link below to shop. I hope you like them as much as me, and I also hope you have a hot cowboy in your life to take you dancing. Good shoes. Good dancing. Good music. There's nothing better.
Most would say that every woman needs a LBD (little black dress) in their wardrobe. I would say that every woman needs a great black and white dress on hand as well. There are many occasions where a solid black dress is too dark or drastic, and white is a little too "look at me" or daytime. I got this dress years ago. Thank goodness I did. This dress has been my go to for bridal showers, church, and presentations at work. The black lining going down the front of the dress is made of leather which gives the dress the edge it needs. When the weather is on the cool side, it can be worn with tights without looking awkward. I have a red blazer that I like to wear it with. This exact dress is no longer available, but the 8 dresses listed below could easily do the job just as well.
My birthday is still about a month away, but I already started to make my bday list. Last week I sent my Dad a picture of a purse that I want. I'm sure he loves getting those text messages haha. He's a good Dad.
While looking online for items to add to my bday list, I found some perfect pieces from Anthropologie's new spring collection. The colors are gorgeous! I had a hard time narrowing it down to my top three favs. If you have time, take a look at these pieces as well as the whole collection. The price points aren't bad and most items are available for pre-order. I can't wait to wear these earrings with one of my dresses for Easter Sunday.
I was waiting in line at Anthro when something shiny caught my eye on one of the racks nearby. I got out of line to see what it was (risky move for those of you who know how long the lines at Anthropologie can get). Turns out this sleeveless top was on sale. It seemed like a piece that would work well with things I already own. When I was standing there thinking of the things I could pair it with (black pencil skirt, white shorts, navy blue blazer) something else shiny caught my eye. Gold. Pants. I mean. Are you kidding me? I decided to wear them together for this post, but I can't wait to wear them once the weather warms up as separates. I have a black hoody that I want to wear with the gold pants, and go for a fancy but doesn't take you too seriously look. Create your own gold moment with some of the pieces below:

Let me start by letting you know that the list is never ending. The list of things I want. I might as well be honest about it. What’s the point of this diary in digital form if it’s not raw or real? The things I want to wear, the makeup I want to try, the trip I want to take, the list goes on and on. I’m sure that to some that sounds superficial or selfish, but when the feeling of satisfaction is so rare in one’s life it can actually be a good thing. Of course it makes my shopping list much longer than most but it also keeps me from settling for anything less than the best. The best people: the best friends, the best members of my family, the best guys. I will always want the best. In every category of life. Or at least I hope so. The option of settling for anything less comes along daily, but what a sad story that would make. The girl who settled because she stopped believing. I refuse to be that girl. I believe that I deserve the best and you should too. If you don’t believe that you deserve the best, why should anyone feel the need to give you the best version of themselves?
I tried to think of 3 things (like I did last week) that I currently want the most. Out of all the dresses, all the shiny shoes what do I want the most right now? And as I tried to narrow it down and choose my top three to share these words kept crossing my mind “the best.” That’s what I want. So I do apologize if what you wanted was to find a list of sexy shoes and bronzer. I’ll have those next week. I had to write this. Mostly because I find the thought of channeling anger through exercise exhausting. And since I can't write lyrics like T Swift can, I turn to SometimeSaturday. I can’t share any details beyond what I've written thus far. The only one who hears those stories is my grandma. She laughs, and when she’s done laughing she will always ask “now, is he a college graduate?”
Be the best. You deserve the best. Settle for nothing less. Oh and get the shoes. Always get the shoes.
I found this top at Neiman Marcus when I was looking for an outfit to wear to a rehearsal dinner in Aspen. The rehearsal dinner was at an Italian restaurant, and couldn't have been more gorgeous. The bride and groom rented out the entire restaurant for the night. It was a wonderful night with candles and lots of laughter. I figured black was a safe choice, yet the outfit would be unique enough to stay true to my style. This isn't the kind of outfit you have to worry about someone else wearing at an event.
This top combines some of the hottest trends right now: velvet and bell sleeves, and is actually part of a two piece set. The designer, Nanette Lepore, designed this sheer top to be worn underneath a sleeveless dress. Which is how I styled the shirt for the rehearsal dinner. I will create a post wearing the dress once I have another occasion special enough to wear the full look. The shirt is completely sheer, and when worn with the dress you keep it that way. No cami. When you wear the top on its own, you obviously need to wear a cami underneath. I recently chose to pair it with a black cami for a night out. I've also worn the top with a nude colored cami and boyfriend jeans for a more casual look. If you're a little more on the wild side, you could pair it with a brami from Free People.
I suppose I have Nanette Lepore to thank for keeping me ahead of the trend curve with this look. She was way ahead of the game with this velvet/bell sleeves piece a year ago. Trends are fun, and it's easy to feel pressured to take part in the latest trend. I think that you should buy what you love. You should wear clothes that you love. Pieces that make you feel gorgeous. Which is how this shirt made me feel when I first tried it on. If you feel good about yourself, it doesn't really matter what's "trending" at the time.
I sent that text to one of my best friends the other morning. Thankfully, she likes fashion just as much as I do and took the text seriously. She gave me her honest opinion and then we talked about dresses, outfits we're wearing this weekend, and boys. You know, the important stuff.
Hats are probably my second favorite thing, after shoes. A good hat can make the day that much better. I wear a hat every single weekend. I'll wear a cap when I run to pick up coffee first thing Saturday and Sunday morning before I get ready. That's more of a please don't notice me because I haven't fixed my hair yet look. Once I've taken the time to get ready for the day, I'll wear a backwards cap (my go to look), or any other hat I own that looks like a good idea. For the Super Bowl tomorrow I'll be sporting a hat. They're fun to wear, and I think it's nice to wear something that isn't allowed Monday-Friday. Here are the hats that I want to get next:
Oh and fashion friend of mine, you know who you are, thanks for being the best : )
I keep a list on my phone of the things that I want. The list will always be there because there is always a new pair of shoes that would look great with the new top I saw while walking through Neiman Marcus. I thought I would share some of the items that are currently on my wish list. Hope you see something you like!
Alright, so I am in desperate need of denim shorts for summer. I'm not being dramatic when I say that I currently do not own a pair of denim shorts. I can't call myself a Texan until I get a pair. The trouble with shorts is the length. Apparently it's a thing to show it all, leaving nothing to the imagination. Not a fan...which makes it difficult to find the right pair. I need something in between the show it all shorts and the pair made for Moms. The pair that I linked above are still short without being extreme. You can show off your tan legs without looking like you're 16.
Sandals for the summer have been on my mind lately. I donated every pair of flat sandals from last year except for one. Which means that I'm down to one pair. I know that these wedges aren't technically flat, but you could still get away with wearing them casually. The color is perfect, and the knot keeps it cool. I am very picky when it comes to wedges. I think a lot of wedges look chunky, and therefore are far from being flattering once you have them on. These give you the height you need without looking clunky.
The last item on this week's What I Want Wednesday...this top. I think I'm in love. I have been stalking this top for months and months and months. It finally went on sale this week. Thank goodness! You have to click on the picture above to see the shirt from the back. It's even better than the front. This top is perfect for a night out. You could wear it with jeans or black pants. Even white pants would look amazing with a tan. I think it's sexy without being too over the top.
