This week's What I Want post is dedicated to the Ralph Lauren dress pictured above. It was on the bday wish list I sent my parents last month. I usually don't wear a lot of patterns or prints. I like that the colors are faded and almost muted. The dress is easy breezy and looks killllller when walking. After I tried this dress on, I wanted to look for similar options right away. I'm surprised my phone didn't lock automatically after I typed "floral maxis" in the search box haha. Never searched such a thing before, but hey, I guess there's a first time for everything. I hope you like some of the other options that I have my eye on. A few of the dresses below are from Forever21 (read: amazing deal) and there's one from Free People. The dress I have on in the picture above is currently on sale (woohoo!) and should qualify for free shipping. Cheers to looking good and girly dresses.
In early February I sent my parents my birthday wish list. My brother is still in grad school, but once he graduates he'll be on the list of lucky ones to receive a copy. I'm sure he's thrilled about it. My Mom had my bday presents shipped straight to my place so I could open them on my actual birthday. I wouldn't see them until that weekend. The morning of my birthday, at 5:45AM to be exact, I woke up and opened my presents. Hot pink shoes at 5AM do not disappoint. Not sure why I've been going with coffee all this time, when all it takes to really wake up is a nice pair of shoes : ) They come in 4 other colors. I've gone back and forth about getting the gold pair. Use the link below to find your fav color:
I wasn't necessarily looking for hott red pants when I first saw these online, but when Helmut Lang is on sale AND they have your size...it's clearly a sign from above. Shop these and some other fun flares below:
I'm trying to find the perfect plain white t-shirt. The one pictured above comes in five or six different colors, one of them being white. This is an updated take on JCrew's classic tee, with longer sleeves. I think this shirt could work. Will keep you updated once I have the chance to try this on. I'm hoping that it wont be too tight around my hips. Sometimes tshirts are too long, and look terrible unless they're tucked in.
I need a new casual blazer. My black one from Macys (brand Bar II) has seen better days. It's just about time to get rid of it. I have my eye on the three pictured above. When I am in store I like the white jackets the best, but don't need another white jacket. I'm trying to find a black blazer or maybe a navy one...but then I saw the floral one and forgot all about needing it to be black. Whoops.
I got this navy jumpsuit for NYE. I wore it with a hot pink blazer and tassel earrings and again for a birthday party later that month. This is the only jumpsuit that I own. I am wayyy behind on the jumpsuit trend because I assumed (for years) that jumpsuits fit like rompers. Rompers are always too big on top or too tiny on the bottom. Trying something on only to find out that it looks ridiculous isn't something I care to do. I must have been feeling brave that day in Austin when I went shopping with my Mom and decided to try on a jumpsuit. Maybe the jersey fabric gave me hope that it would actually fit in all the right places. It fits. So right. I will never assume that a jumpsuit or romper is out of the question because a few of them a few years back looked like a wreck when I put them on. This jumpsuit is so comfy and the navy is such a classic color. I'm excited to try on more of them.
JCrew made a similar version of this top last fall in black. When I saw it online in white I knew that I had to get it. I wear the black top alllll the time. I even tried to convince my Mom to get it in black last year. By the way, it's my Mom's birthday today. Happy birthday Mom! For those of you who don't know, my Mom takes all the pictures for the blog. She's the best. She's the reason that the pictures always look so good. This blog wouldn't be possible without her. She puts up with my drama queen ways and keeps me in line all at the same time. I'm lucky to have her in my life. She's the best Mom, hands down.
The jeans in this pic are Free People. I got them on sale from Macy's. Always check to see if Macy's carries the Free People item that you have your eye on. Macy's has THE BEST sales, plus killer coupons. The earrings are from Anthro. I got them a few years back. Lipstick is my usual NARS heatwave.
I moved to Dallas last February, but had to miss the St Patrick's Day celebrations because I was in Houston that weekend. This year, I'll be in town and can't wait to see what all the hype is about. I have been trying to find something green for weeks. Here's what I've found so far:
I found this skirt on Revolve's website. I plan on pairing this skirt with a black tank or black bodysuit. I'm not tan enough to pair it with a white top, but maybe by the time summer rolls around, that might be a possibility. If I don't end up choosing this skirt for St Patrick's Day, it's a good option to keep in mind for pool days or even the beach (can you tell I can't wait for summer?).
Another option that is at the top of my list is the following dress:
Show Me Your Mumu has such great pieces. This dress also has a fun print, but has more of a tomboy vibe. The short sleeves and tshirt material make it more casual. You could wear it with sneakers or black sandals. It would look cool with a black leather jacket tied around the waist. The more I think about this dress, the more I like it. It's an easy piece to wear and could be great for a party when you don't want to look like you're trying allll that hard. I read in the reviews that the material is amazing and is perfect for travel (it won't wrinkle). Which is big in my book because I don't own an iron.
When the search for St Patrick's Day started I had no luck. I mean no luck at all. My Grandma's favorite color is green. There was a moment where I thought that maybe I could ask to borrow one of her sparkly cardigan sets. Hey, they're pretty. Trust me, and when she wears them not once has she ever attended an event where she was wearing the exact same thing as someone else. After I realized that I won't see her in time I had to fall back on an old trick of mine. Wear a pair of killer earrings with an outfit that fits like a glove. Maybe navy, black, or white. I have a few tops that I could wear with any of the green earrings above.
I haven't decided what I'm wearing this year. I have a few more days until the events this weekend, and more than a week and a half to find something for next weekend so there's still time. I hope ya'll have a fun time on St Patrick's Day. I'll be sure to post pics on Insta of the green outfits that I end up going with. Oh, and my favvvv fashion friend will be in town this weekend! Yay!!
We took these pics on Sunday when it was raining off and on, which is why I look pissed off. Rain ruins my hair. Somehow it looks perfect in these pics, straight and shiny. Not sure how that happened, but thankful that it did. I am not the most outdoorsy person. Taking these pics for the blog has made me be a bit more flexible. Rain, heat, crazy wind. We've powered through all of them. It's much easier to look good indoors.
Enough about the rain. Anyone who knows me, knows that I change clothes the second that I walk in the door. I love love love to dress up and spend weeks planning an outfit/figuring out what to wear, but as soon as I walk in the door I want to be out of those clothes and into something athletic looking. Track pants, running shorts, leggings, tshirts, tanks, sweatshirts. I think it's because I don't want to wear anything fancy around the house.
This habit of mine got me thinking. Why not pair some of my favorite pieces that I wear around the house with some of my more sophisticated items (J Crew Silver Brocade pants). I understand that a look like this can't be worn to work, but it can easily be worn anywhere you thought about wearing a sweatshirt with sweatpants. Adding an expensive item makes the look memorable, causing people to wonder where you got that from instead of judging you for leaving the house in sweats.
I got this powder blue Denim & Supply sweatshirt over the holiday break. It's cropped which makes it less laid back looking. You don't want to try this trick with a sweatshirt that goes down past your hips. I haven't figured out how to make that one look socially acceptable. As soon as I do, you'll be the first to know. Until then, shop some of my favorite sweatshirts below. Hope ya'll had a good weekend!
I'm feeling super girly this week, listening to love songs and liking the color pink. I don't know how long this will last. I'm still recording the Duke games and kind of want to wear a backwards hat to the A&M game with my Dad this weekend...so I guess I haven't gone to the girly side 100%.
The J Crew tutu and Rebecca Minkoff pastel necklace both made their way on my wish list over the last couple of weeks. It wasn't until tonight that I realized how cute they would be together. Add the pastel sneaks from Anthro and you're set.
