Last Saturday my Mom and I went on a trip to visit a family friend of ours. As soon as we walked in the front door we were greeted with smiles, hugs, and glasses of champagne. My mom’s friend was wearing a classic Williams-Sonoma black and white striped apron, her hair was styled, and her makeup had been done (keep in mind this was early on a Saturday morning). She still had family in town for Thanksgiving, so the house was full of people. There was a homemade apple pie on the counter and several things cooking on the stove and in the oven. I’m convinced she has Southern Belle superpowers. It’s embarrassing to think I was struggling to look good carrying my one casserole into Friendsgiving the other week. Here she was offering champagne while baking and looking fabulous doing it all. We visited with everyone and then took pics for the blog on the front porch before we left later that day. Fact: My typical Saturday mornings revolve around coffee and College Gameday. A girl could get used to the champagne on a Southern front porch way of life.
The dress that I wore is a great piece for the weekend, when you want to be comfortable but still look cute. The material doesn’t wrinkle, which is nice when you’re sitting in the car for hours. The last thing you want is to get to your destination and look like a mess. I noticed this dress in Anthropologie when I was looking for something to wear for a weekend in Houston. The unique color and bow both caught my eye. In Texas, the weather is all over the place. It’s nice to have items like this in your closet that can be worn throughout the seasons. It can easily be paired with boots and tights or sandals next spring. This dress runs large, so size down. This dress (which is now on sale!!) and several similar options are all linked below:
This dress is on major sale right now!! I got this bell sleeve shift dress for a pedal party in Houston. For the party, I paired it with converse and a floral embellished collar from ASOS. Shop my look below:
Velvet has been everywhere lately. I decided to jump on board the trend train with this top. Most of my clothes can be worn to the office as well as church. I think it's safe to say I won't be sporting this top to Sunday School. The v neck is dramatic, but you could easily wear a cami underneath or a statement necklace to make it more conservative. I found this necklace online when I was shopping for something to wear to Friendsgiving. I wasn't sure if the necklace would be as pretty in person, so I went to Northpark Mall to check it out. Turns out it's even more pretty in person. This is a good necklace to have on hand for holiday parties. Find the link for this Northern Lights necklace and my other top two picks below:
My roommate Kendra and her best friend Elyse hosted Friendsgiving this past Saturday. Over 30 people were there! The food was delicious, the music was amazing, and the decorations were as cute as can be. Elyse has such a pretty house. It was the perfect place to have the party. I was so impressed with it all. Not one single detail was overlooked. The party was a success, and everyone had a great time.
Kendra has been such a blessing to me this year. Both she and her friends/family have been so nice to me right from the start. She made my move to a brand new city much better than it would have been otherwise. I’m so thankful for her, and for the opportunity to be included in her wonderful group of friends here in Dallas.
Every year I have one or two special events to attend that require a special outfit. This year, one of those events was a wedding in Houston. Shivani (the bride) loves fashion just as much as I do. I couldn’t let her down by showing up to her wedding in a regular old boring dress. I knew that a lot of my friends would be there, most of whom I don’t get to see very often now that I’m living in Dallas. I also knew that my 7th grade boyfriend would not only be there but was a groomsman in the wedding! When I was in 7th grade and he was in 8th grade, I decided to join the cross country team for one year just so I could talk to him…I had to look good at this wedding. There was no other option.
My original plan was to wear the Misha Collection dress JoJo wore the night the finale of her season aired. When that dress didn’t work out, I started to look for other options. I eventually came across this Self Portrait dress. Because the wedding was that very next week, I had the dress shipped straight to Neiman Marcus here in Dallas. I didn’t want to risk it getting lost in the mail. Once I was able to try it on, I was happy to find out that the dress didn’t need any alterations. I already had shoes and a clutch that would match. The only thing I had to buy was nail polish. I decided to wear my hair slicked back in a ponytail so the dress could really take center stage. A complicated hairstyle would ruin the look.
From now on, Self Portrait will be my go to brand when I need something to wear to a special event. I can’t wait to wear this dress again. Shop this dress, Jojo's Misha Collection dress, and my other top picks below.
Last weekend when my Mom was in town, I got the chance to visit the new Draper James store here in Dallas. Long story short, the store did not disappoint. Reese Witherspoon brought her A game when she came to Texas ya'll. As soon as you walk in the store you feel at home. You're offered sweet tea served in the most adorrrrrable cup with a baby blue and white striped straw. The dressing rooms are large, have great lighting, and the mirrors are gigantic. It's the type of store you feel comfortable in. No mess, no clutter, just gorgeous pieces perfectly displayed in the most perfect store. Shop my favorite pieces using the links below:
I bought this dress for my first day of work. I needed something a bit on the conservative side, but still wanted to feel fashionable. It's a great dress to have for both work and church. The best news about this J Crew dress is that it's now on sale! It comes in a light grey color as well. The link for this dress and a few others are listed below. Funny story about this picture...when we were taking pictures on Henderson I was worried because there were so many people driving by. If you know me, or if you have read my welcome page, you know that I am certainly on the shy side. After a few minutes of taking pics for this post, some guys drove by and started to whistle! I was so embarrassed, so I told my Mom that we should probably go home. (This picture was taken just as I was trying to leave/head back to the car). She laughed and said it was fine.
I usually style this cape as pictured: black pants, black booties, and a champagne or gold colored top. I've also paired this cape with one of my tribal print dresses and over the knee boots. Both looks get so many compliments. I like this cape because it's a little more interesting than the typical white blazer that everyone has. This cape causes people to look twice. Just be sure you wear it on a good hair day. It's not easy to blend in when wearing this look.
A few years ago, when Christian Louboutin first released their line of nail polish, I remember thinking how silly…$50 for nail polish! Who would ever pay that much? Fast forward a few years, and there I am in Neiman Marcus searching for the perfect nude shade for fall. Trust me, I tried and tried to find another option (anything less than $50) that would work but something kept drawing me back to their line, The Nudes. Each color was subtle and so pretty. I decided to purchase the Simple Nude shade, and painted my nails that same evening in preparation for a friend’s wedding. The color was gorgeous. I wanted to hate it, but just couldn’t. This is one of those you get what you pay for items. As long as you buy a classic shade (red, nude) that can be worn with most outfits, you will certainly get your money's worth. The exact color that I purchased and a few others are linked below : )
